Baby Blanket Team

Posted in baby stuff, blankets at 8:22 am by pwhawk

November 18, 2005 ~ Here we were at BJ’s at Mellisa’s pre-baby luncheon. Margit, Kandice, and I collaborated on a baby afghan for Melissa’s soon to-be baby.

I made the multicolored panel, Margit made the cable stitch panel, and Kandice made the blue garter stitch panel. I sewed the 3 panels together and knitted the border around the whole thing. The white and blue yarn are Lion Brand Homespun and the multicolored on is Red Heart Baby Clouds – Tutti Fruitti

The lace pattern I used is actually part of a sock pattern, “Falling Leaves”, from Fall 2005 Knitty. It looked interesting and I wanted to try it on something quick, so here it is!

Toe Up Jaywalkers Progress

Posted in socks at 8:45 am by pwhawk

While I was working on the Knit-along socks, I needed a break so I started these socks for Elaine. She wanted some long socks that she can wear with a skirt during the cold winter yard duty days at CCS.

I started these on Jan 24. using Knitpicks Dancing sock yarn, Turbo Addi #2 circular needles, and the Queen Kahuna fan toe bottom up w/ 7 sts cast on. I increased until there were 56 stitches total. Then I increased one side w/ 6 sts evenly spaced so that there are 28 on one side and 34 on the other. Then I started the Jaywalker (inspired by Grumperina)zigzag except I am going toe up and knitting 6 stitches between the zigs & zags. – Picture by Katie

Feb 10, 2006 – Slipped Stitch Heel finished! This heel is from the Queen Kahuna Crazy Heels & Toes book. Gusset & heel are knitted without picking up stitches.

Feb 22, 2006 – After 6″ of the zig-zag pattern, I started some leg shaping. I added a stitch every two rows until there was 7 stitches between the zigs and the zags. After continuing the pattern for an inch or so, I switched to #3 needles and knitted another inch or so. Then I started adding 2 sts every 2 rows until there was 8 stitches between the zigs and zags.

I plan to knit another inch and then put in 2×2 ribbing until I run out of yarn.

Project Linus Blanket Squares

Posted in Project Linus, baby stuff, blankets at 8:43 pm by pwhawk

Here are the first 9″x9″ squares of our Project Linus baby blankets. The one the left was made by Elaine & I made the other one.

Elaine’s square is her own design which she whipped up in about 1/2 an hour with her crochet hook & scrap acrylic baby yarn.

My square took a bit longer is knit with #8 needles and Caron True Match acrylic yarn. The pattern is by Melanie Williams and posted on the Dish Cloth Boutique website which has many patterns for dishcloths: http://www.jimsyldesign.com/~dishbout/ I just thought that this is a wonderful opportunity to try out many cable & lace patterns on a small scale and at same time make a blanket to can comfort a child who is seriously ill, or traumatized. The trick is to find the right size needle so that the square comes out to 9″ by 9″.

I’m waiting for more squares to come in so that I can sew them together 9 at a time , knit a 1.5 inch border around them in order to come up with a 30″ by 30″ baby blanket. I’m hoping get many squares so that I can put complimentary ones together. I’m anxiuos to see what will come in over the next few weeks!!! Posted by Picasa
