Marking My Stitches

Posted in notions, shawls, stoles, and wraps, yarn at 12:39 pm by pauline

I love my new stitch markers (made by Abigail). I bought them on my second day at Stitches West. Also in this picture are my new Addi Lace needles which Freecia first told me about at BobaKnit, and the first few rows of my Madeira Stole ( pattern by Lynn). The yarn is Misti Alpaca sport weight that I purchased at the Super Bowl Half time sale at Full Thread Ahead.

The stitch markers are very well made and the rings slide along very smoothly. They make everything beautiful to look at as I knit, as well. The yarn is soft and seems to play very well with the lacy pattern and the lace needles. It’s such a pleasure to knit this I’m finding it hard to put it down!

A Very Good Day For Knitters

Posted in baby stuff, socks, sweaters, yarn at 2:28 pm by pauline

I may, or may not finish my sweater by the last day of Stitches West, but who cares?? I think I was in yarn heaven at the Market Preview yesterday.
My favorite booth, of course, was the Bay Area Knit Co-op booth #732, run by Cookie A. and Lynn Curry.
Here are some of the samples of the brand new sock patterns that Cookie wrote. I had the pleasure of knitting the Millicent sample ( the red one in the back) with an intricate lacy cuff, ribbed leg, and an asymmetrical ribbing design on the instep. It’s a brand new pattern, seen for the first time here!

Here’s the booth just minutes before the Market Preview opened. There’s Margit’s Fiber Fiend rack standing tall in the corner full of her yummy hand-dyed fibers!

Here are samples of Cookie’s socks that have been published in Knitty.

Here are more of her famous socks.

The market opens and shoppers come rushing in grabbing all kinds of goodies. A long line forms at the Blue Moon booth.

Here’s Kristi, Lynn, and Cookie processing sales as quickly as they can.

Kristi’s Avery baby sweater is so adorable. The pattern has a picture of a baby modeling it. So cute!

I couldn’t pass up these knitting needles at the Yarn Dog booth.

I bought a pair of size 10 needles with sheep knobs! I found some buttons at the Buttons! booth that were just perfect for my new cardigan.

I spent about 15 minutes at the Machine Knitters Guild learning how to machine knit, increasing, decreasing, and casting off. It was so much fun. I’m really tempted to get a knitting machine now. I think I have enough room for a loom and a knitting machine in my “yarn room” if I don’t mind not having much floor space to walk around in, but who needs to walk around in a yarn room. Here’s the swatch I made!

That was just the first day of Stitches!

My First Stitches

I’m in the home stretch. I’m working on the second sleeve of my Breezy Cables cardigan/jacket. I am hoping to get this and perhaps another pair of socks done in time for my first Stitches West. It has 24 bobbles and a bunch of cables. The yarn is the Harrisville Highland I picked up from the mill in Harrisville, NH last summer.

It’s starting to look like a sweater, finally.
