Unlike my husband who’s from Fargo, ND, I’m one of those wimpy California Bay Area people who have never seen a snow plow before. So here I am clutching my knitting bag and my latest yarn purchase right in the middle of a New England snow storm. It was bad enough to close down airports and cause blackouts throughout Maine.

My knitting stayed nice and dry, however. Here is my Cedar Creek sock being made in Blue Moon Fiber Arts Lightweight Socks That Rock, in the Christmas Rock colorway.

Of course there were many nice days too where we visted some lighthouses and all the beautiful little towns along the coast.

Boston is only 90 minutes away. Here I am looking out a window in the Boston Public Library with my knitting bag close at hand.

I love New England and I love the way the knitters there take wool so seriously!
Meanwhile, back in California, there was a FOsighting! Here’s Justin wearing the Baby Poncho!

Back in October I bought some Wilton Icing Colors and some undyed superwash sock yarn from The Yarn Place so that I can dye some turquoise yarn to make socks for my sister Doreen.
Yesterday, my knitting sensei, Margit the Fiber Fiend, invited me over to her workshop to dye yarn!!! Here she doing some fiendish dyeing as she guided me through whole process.

After a bunch mixing, squirting, squishing, and microwave steaming, this is what I got. I ended up dyeing it with all of Doreen’s favorite colors: purple, teal, and turquoise.

Here’s the view from the side.

My first hank of dyed yarn!

This is what it looked like this morning after a day of drying.

Here it is twisted up.

And finally, here it is wound into a center-pull ball, ready to knit.

I actually finished this poncho back in January but I just got around to weaving in the ends and giving it to Justin. I made the neck extra stretchy and the hood extra large… just in case…

Here’s the back. The lighter section was continued from the front and the blue section was knitted from the bottom up on the back. The two sections were grafted together with the Kitchener stitch. (I wanted to stay in practice).

Needles: size 8 bamboo straights and circulars
Yarn: Lion Brand Jiffy
Pattern: Adapted from Lion Brand Hooded Baby Poncho

Last Thursday at BobaKnit, Freecia lugged in a box full of BobaKnit swag.
Even those of us who didn’t get our orders in on time got buttons from Kristi. Thanks Kristi!

Many of us were ready to get our pictures taken with our swag against the orange BobaKnit wall.

Here’s Hannah with her giant BobaKnit shopping bag.

We hope to get really organized next week and get everyone into the picture!
Meanwhile, the squares are coming in for my church’s HAWK group 2007 Project Linus blanket. We hope to get this done by the end of May.

I’m putting pink single crochet border around each square before sewing them all together. The patterns for the picture squares are from the Pattern-A-Day Calendar and the textured squares are dish cloth or stitch dictionary patterns that the knitters want to try out. Another 12 squares, and this blanket will be done and sent off to Project Linus to benefit a seriously ill or traumatized child.
The hearts on the bottom right is my very first intarsia!
