Rockin’ Monkey Tide Pool

Posted in socks, yarn at 9:01 pm by pauline

Since The Yarn Harlot blogged about her Monkeys today, I thought that I too can blog about mine! Of course mine aren’t anywhere near completion but I can at least in my humble way emulate and acknowlege some of my heroes.

Thank you Blue Moon Fiber Arts Rockin’ Sock Club for the beautiful contest prize yarn: Socks That Rock – Tide Pool colorway – medium weight. Oh my gosh, these colors actually look like they come from a tide pool.
Thank you Cookie for this great pattern, for sharing your knitterly genius, and for your patience.
Thank you Stephanie, Yarn Harlot, for your inspiration and for tireless blogging day in and day out, keeping us company wherever we are.

Summer Baby Vest

Posted in baby stuff, sweaters at 9:03 pm by pauline

It’s warming up here in California. I’ve finished the Oz vest for the cool evenings walks.

Or maybe a night game at AT&T park…

Or… Just hanging around being cute …

Yarn: Lion Brand Cotton Ease Yarn

Needles: Size 8 US

Pattern: Oz from Natural Knits for Babies and Moms

Since the pattern called for sport weight yarn and the Cotton Ease is worsted weight, I modified the pattern to accommodate the larger gauge. I casted on 45 stitches for the front and the back and followed the shaping instructions for the the newborn size but followed the measurements for the 6 months size. There’s supposed to be buttons on the left shoulder but I left them out since the v-neck opening provided ample clearance for the baby’s head.

The Cotton Knitting – Dishcloth Knitting Thing

Posted in gifts, home, yarn at 1:52 pm by pauline

Thanks to Abigail, I feel I’m slowly getting sucked in to this cotton knitting – dish cloth knitting thing… I bought one of those giant balls of Sugar ‘N’ Cream and made a dish cloth.

The Ombre looks so nice as a dish cloth! I never thought I could rave over a dish cloth.

I noticed the little black specks in the yarn and called up the 800 number on the ball band and this nice customer service person answered and reassured me that it is part of the cotton fiber.

I think these can make great gifts. I wouldn’t mind having one of these hanging around my kitchen!
Needles US size 8

Yarn: Sugar ‘N’ Cream Potpourri Ombre

Pattern: I started out following the Lickety Split Cloth pattern, June 25 from my 2007 Pattern a Day Calendar. It was fine until I got to the decreasing section of the pattern. In software engineering terms, the pattern had a non-terminating condition …eg. infinite loop.

So, here’s my pattern. I tried my best to keep the little holes going all the way around the dishcloth:

CO 3 stitches

Increase Section: K2 sts, YO, K until the end of the row. Repeat this row until there are 45 stitches.

Decrease Section: K2 sts, YO, K2tog, knit until 5 stitches before the end of the row. K2tog, knit to the end of the row. Repeat this row until 8 stitches remain on your needle.

K2, YO, K2tog, K2tog, K2. (7 sts remain)

K2, YO, k2tog, K2tog, K1. (6 sts remain)

K2, YO, k2tog, k2tog. (5 sts remain)

K2, YO, k3tog. (4 sts remain)

K2, K2tog (3 sts remain)

Bind off and weave in the ends.

The I’m A Girl Hat

Posted in baby stuff, hats at 2:32 pm by pauline

This baby hat is for mothers who are sick of telling people that their baby is a girl, inspite of the lacy bottoms, and floral onesies!!This hat says “I’m a girl! Get it?? PINK!! Picot edging!!! Bobbles!! EYELETS!!! EQUALS : I’M A GIRL!!!!”

Yarn: Lion Brand Cotton Ease

Pattern: Pretty much the same elements as the Last Minute Gift (see previous entry) except I casted on 60 stitches and did some decreases along the way and topped the whole thing off with bobbles!!!!
