Emmett’s Apple Hat

Posted in FO sightings, accessories, baby stuff, hats at 12:17 am by pauline

I’d like to introduce my grandson Emmett! He was born last month and is one of the main reasons why posts have been so scarce lately. My son & daughter-in-law are doing just great. Ron & I being the proud first-time grandparents that we are have seen this new family at least once a week since Emmett was born! He’s starting to chub out now and wearing his grandma handknits proudly.

I’ve designed and knitted a hat for him to wear to the local produce market with his “Tai Paw” (great-grandma) on Saturdays. It is made from left-over STR medium-weight Monsoon colorway from the 2007 Sock Club.

Here’s the pattern:

Size: newborn to 3 months

Yarn: About 25 grams of STR medium weight sock yarn or any medium weight sock yarn
Needles: US 3 circular needles or whatever needles that are required to obtain the gauge

Dimensions (unstretched) 6.5″ accross, 13″ circumference, 5″ height

Ribbing:

Cast on 80 stitches loosely

Join being careful not to twist.

Rnd 1: [K2 P2] repeat to end of round

Repeat Rnd 1 – 8 times

Body of hat:

Knit in the round until the hat measures 3.25″ from the cast on.

Make a 2″ I-cord from the remaining 4 stitches. Cut yarn leaving a 4″ tail. Draw up remaining stitches tightly on the end of the yarn through the center of the stem and weave end of yarn inside the hat.
