Sweater Time

Posted in sweaters at 3:10 am by pauline

I don’t really plan my projects in any particular way. But after a long journey, Ron’s Bowie sweater is done!

Early this year, I got the idea that I wanted to knit a vest for Ron. I bought some gray Cascade 220 at a sale at Purlescence. A few months later, I bought the Bowie pattern ( which was not a vest but a pullover sweater), and went back for more yarn. Finally, in March, I casted on and quickly knitted the back and half of a sleeve. By mid April, the weather started warming up and the sweater went into hibernation.

When the weather started cooling off, I started working on the sweater again. After a while I realized I was going to run out of yarn. So it’s back to Purlescence for one more hank of yarn. The knitting went pretty quickly once I figured out all my notes and had all the yarn that I needed. And before I knew it, the knitting was done!

Unlike my first sweater which was knit all in one piece and involved no sewing at all, this one had four pieces. After what seemed like eons of sewing, I’m done. It fits him perfectly and is keeping him warm, now that it’s sweater time in California.

Ya Gotta Have Sole

Posted in socks at 6:09 pm by pauline

About a year ago, I bought some Hand Jive Nature’s Palette fingering yarn and quickly made it into a modified Crusoe sock with a softer drape and a longer leg. I started working on the second sock last month and quickly realized that the sole will probably wear out very quickly because the gauge I knitted in order to get the softer drape in the leg was too loose in the stockinette gusset, heel and sole portions of the sock.

After consulting with Cookie and some of my fellow BobaKnitters, I decided to reinforce the sock by replacing the entire stockinette section with Eye Of Partridge stitches. The result is a bouncy, comfortable sole and a leg with a nice soft drape.

Pattern: – heavily modified Crusoe
Cast on 60 sts with US 2.5 (3.0mm) needles – 2×2 rib cuff – slipstich heel – replace stockinette stitches with Eye Of Partridge.

Yarn: Hand Jive Nature’s Palette fingering yarn- Odd Duck #2 colorway

Started: October 2006 – Finished: October 2007
