Dyeing Sock Yarn

Posted in socks, yarn at 5:41 pm by pauline

Back in October I bought some Wilton Icing Colors and some undyed superwash sock yarn from The Yarn Place so that I can dye some turquoise yarn to make socks for my sister Doreen.

Yesterday, my knitting sensei, Margit the Fiber Fiend, invited me over to her workshop to dye yarn!!! Here she doing some fiendish dyeing as she guided me through whole process.

After a bunch mixing, squirting, squishing, and microwave steaming, this is what I got. I ended up dyeing it with all of Doreen’s favorite colors: purple, teal, and turquoise.

Here’s the view from the side.

My first hank of dyed yarn!

This is what it looked like this morning after a day of drying.

Here it is twisted up.

And finally, here it is wound into a center-pull ball, ready to knit.
